The Flight
We got to the gate as they were loading. I saw some old friends from industry and we walked onto the plane – a Boeing 737. We sat and waited and waited. The pilot said we were on “Air Traffic Hold” for weather in Newark. We waited and waited, and they they said we would be leaving in a few minutes. Those minutes went by, and it began to seem that we would miss our connection. The pilot came on again, and said that we were now on gate hold for TWO HOURS. That did not make us happy.
They opened the cabin door and let us get off the plane. This proved to be a big mistake. Because about ten minutes after telling us this, and having about half the plane disembark, the pilot got word that we had a “wheels up” time twenty minutes away!
People were streaming back into the plane; the flight attendants were rushing people to their seats. This was not an easy thing. One big dopey guy (not me) said his friend went to the food court and was stuck in line. This joker seemed to be the only one off the plane, and this loud mouthed doofus finally got off the plane to track him down. He did, and then proceeded to regale the whole damned plane of his various other flight escapades (although I think he had only been on a plane maybe twice before, based on his later behavior)
We ultimately took off from Newark about two hours late, and had a nice little flight. We watched a hokey chick flick movie (Hitch) and we both fell asleep.
